About Us
Christian Exchange started as joint initiative between Orthodox Christians from Russia and Bulgaria and Western Christians from Great Britain who have been working together through the Church Mission Society (CMS) in Russia, Bulgaria and UK. The common work and Christian devotion bore the idea of getting Christians together and sharing spiritual experience. To learn more about CMS, you can visit their website where you can find abundance of resources and helpful links about mission and changing lives through sharing in Jesus: http://www.cms-uk.org/.
The first steps focused on learning about one another. Then we realised that only learning was not enough - we needed to find common ground in our faith and worshipping practices. But you cannot find a common ground because of the differences in the theology and the doctrine of the various Christian churches. What we found was that there are so many common elements and aspects of our Christian life and that the differences cannot prevent us from true Christian sharing.
How can we share Christian experiences if we don't come together and live common Christian life, at least for some time. This bore the idea of organising missionary visits between the Orthodox Christians in Russia and Bulgaria and the Christians in UK (with the perspective that Christians from other countries, both Orthodox and Western Christian, get involved in this spiritual initiative). CMS's logo - "sharing Jesus, changing lives" - appealed to us very much because we are convinced that common Christian sharing would always bring change of life in the name of Jesus.
The more churches and Christians get involved, the more this Orthodox-Western Christian Network will develop and further expand. The Network would offer authentic spiritual exchange, as Western Christians experience Orthodox spirituality in their Orthodox brothers and sisters' environment, and the Orthodox Christians experience Western Christian spirituality in their Western Christian brothers and sisters' environment. This would ultimately bring the unity of Christians which was commanded to us by the Lord - to be one in Him.
